Hawaii Newborn and Baby Portraiture by Simply Baby { Kailua & Honolulu, HI } bio picture
  • Love is the purest form of art.

    As the mother of three (that's me to the left, with my youngest), I know all too well how fleeting baby's first year is. Your love grows along with your baby, but memories fade with passing days. What do you most want to remember about those first moments? The tiny toes, downy soft cheeks and dream smiles? The way he grasps your finger tighter than you'd imagine possible, or how she fits so perfectly cuddled into the curve of your shoulder?

    Newborn portraits are truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. And as your baby grows, there are other milestones you'll want to record- gummy grins, sitting proudly, standing tall and of course baby's very first birthday.

    Simply Baby Photography was born out of my love for my children, and my desire to capture the pure beauty of babyhood along with the special bonds of family. I would be honored to share your family's story through my art.

Waiting for Micah {Kaneohe maternity}

When Nichole contacted me for her maternity session, we discussed several ideas. She showed me her beautiful wedding slideshow and when I suggested holding the session at the Koolau Golf Club where she and Kevin were married she agreed it was perfect. This was my first time visiting the club and special permission is required to photograph there. I’m so glad Nichole made the arrangements- the grounds are breathtaking.

Rocking the boots with one of the cutest baby bellies I’ve seen.

So in love- my favorite part of maternity sessions is capturing the emotions and connections. And of course, since this lovely bridge was a backdrop for their wedding portraits, I wanted to show how much love grows as a family grows.

I adore this one because it shows Nichole’s and Kevin’s personalities so well. They- and I- laughed so much during their session!
Nichole was positively glowing. I love her sweet, hopeful expression.
After we’d packed up and were on our way out, I spotted a gentle slope with yellow oxeye blossoms. “Just one more” turned into a handful, and I’m so glad we took the time. This is one of my favorites from the session.

Maternity sessions should be scheduled between weeks 32-36 when you’re showing nicely and before discomfort sets in- outdoor sessions can be a bit of a workout for everyone. Baby Micah arrived about a week early five weeks after this session, and I can’t wait to share his portraits next.

Nanami, 10 days new {Hawaii newborn portraits}

Lovely little Nanami visited the studio at 10 days old. Don’t let her angelic sleeping face fool you- she was wide awake and alert when she arrived. I can already tell she’s going to grow into a bright, curious little girl.

This halo is a new acquisition and works beautifully with the dusty rose backdrop- so delicate and feminine.

Perfect rosebud lips and tiny ears.

White works very well for photographing baby girls, and this setup makes me think of clouds and cotton candy.

Victor {Kailua newborn photography}

In September I announced a special offer for a newborn collection to any baby born on September 11 to a military service member or emergency response personnel. My second son was due September 24th, and since my firstborn was so early I assumed we’d be fortunate to make it to September 1. Fast forward to Labor Day (September 3 that year) and I was concerned he would be born on September 11. I didn’t ever want him to feel guilty about celebrating his birthday on a very somber day. He arrived on September 10 but I never forgot the complex feelings I had thinking there was a real possibility his birthday would be the 11th.

Baby Victor, born September 11, 2012 to a US Armed Forces veteran, showed me how hope and love overcome dark days, and that celebrating the promise of future generations is an appropriate way to honor those who sacrificed their lives to save others.

Victor’s newborn session was held on his one week birthday, and he was bright eyed when we started the session.

Every last detail of this gorgeous little boy was picture perfect.

At over 9lbs, he was so deliciously chubby!

I adore the sleepy newborn smiles. How can you look at this sweet face and not smile back?

Even though it took him a little while to settle, once he got into a deep sleep he was a dream. And just look at those adorable full cheeks!

Honoring those, like Victor’s daddy, who serve our country.
