Hawaii Newborn and Baby Portraiture by Simply Baby { Kailua & Honolulu, HI } bio picture
  • Love is the purest form of art.

As the mother of three (that's me to the left, with my youngest), I know all too well how fleeting baby's first year is. Your love grows along with your baby, but memories fade with passing days. What do you most want to remember about those first moments? The tiny toes, downy soft cheeks and dream smiles? The way he grasps your finger tighter than you'd imagine possible, or how she fits so perfectly cuddled into the curve of your shoulder?

Newborn portraits are truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. And as your baby grows, there are other milestones you'll want to record- gummy grins, sitting proudly, standing tall and of course baby's very first birthday.

Simply Baby Photography was born out of my love for my children, and my desire to capture the pure beauty of babyhood along with the special bonds of family. I would be honored to share your family's story through my art.

From tiny beginnings – Kailua preemie portraits

Almost every newborn photographer will tell you that newborns are easiest and best to photograph around 5-12 days old. Some will even refuse to take babies older than 12 days, though most will make an exception for preemies. While I agree that the 5-12 day window is generally the best time to get a wide variety of sleeping poses, I’ve had success photographing full term babies up to 5 weeks old and preemies/micropreemies up to 12-15 weeks (generally within a month of their original due dates).

My firstborn was a preemie, also born two months early, and I understand the stress and worry that families of preemies face in those first days. Portraits are often the last thing on your mind as you’re camped out in the NICU.

Miss E was nearly 3.5 months old at the time of her session, or just over a month old adjusted. And she was an absolute dream and a joy to meet and photograph. Her parents adore her and I’m pretty sure she already has her daddy wrapped around her tiny finger.

There are a few especially wonderful things about photographing older newborns- one being their chub. Those gorgeous full rounded cheeks are perfectly kissable.

Growing quickly, but still small enough to fit on the doll bed!

The eye contact and smiles of older newborns are amazing too. I loved all her expressions.

E, I hope you grow strong and keep your fighting spirit. You are brave and beautiful, and never forget it.

Just Peachy – Kailua Newborn Portraits

Meet Lia, six days old and perfect in every way.

The simple cream, peach and pink tones go beautifully and show off that she is her mother’s first baby girl- with three older brothers. Don’t let these sweet sleepy portraits fool you- I can already tell she has the spunk and voice to fit right into her busy, loving, chaotic household.

I loved how she would rest one finger on her cheek as she slept- isn’t that adorable?

All those bitty details- lips, ten tiny toes, fingers so small you’re afraid to trim their nails.

Since she was born at Castle Hospital, I was able to meet her the evening after she was born and get a quick cuddle. While her session a few days later wasn’t the quickest, it meant more snuggles and rocking so I can’t complain at all. Sessions always go at baby’s pace and comfort level, with plenty of feedings, swaddling and love.

I can’t wait to see her again in a few months for her next Grow! baby plan session.

Glowing mama – Kailua maternity session

Would you believe this glowing mama is expecting her THIRD baby? She’s absolutely stunning, and when Kelly of Kelly Roth Photography invited me to join the fun I eagerly accepted.

We selected a beautiful rainforest location for her maternity session, quiet and private. Lush green foliage to symbolize the growth of new life within.

When the sun came out from behind a cloud for a few brief moments, it illuminated her and her perfect round belly perfectly and I think Kelly and I both gasped out loud- it was a divine touch, bathing her in a halo of light.

I can’t wait to meet her sweet baby. Kelly and I are guessing girl, and we should find out if our guess is correct any moment now. K, we’re wishing you a peaceful, incredible birth and lots of love.
