I met the Thomas family thanks to my friend Tina of Tina Mahina Photography. They have mutual friends who recommended her for their session, but her specialty is destination weddings and honeymoons. She told me they were expecting and asked if I was interested in photographing their babymoon- of course! We met on the beach on Valentine’s Day, when almost the entire island was very gray and very damp. Amazingly, we didn’t get rained on once and the soft light was beautiful.

The rich colors of T’s dress brightened the day and worked very well with the tropical location.

This wide stretch of white sandy beach is often  deserted or nearly so, so it is an ideal location for intimate portraits. There are a few different looks which I love- the endless beach, the rock formations, and a wooded glade with a pond. I love how the second image has such a mermaid feel.

T is radiant and has such a perfect baby belly!

The joy and love between T and C and their baby shone- their little one will definitely be cherished. A babymoon is a wonderful time to celebrate new life, and create new memories while enjoying peaceful moments together before the sleepless nights begin.

T and C, it was wonderful meeting you, and I’m so glad you enjoyed our session! I wish your family all the best, and I can’t wait to see a photo of baby once s/he arrives.

Would you believe this glowing mama is expecting her THIRD baby? She’s absolutely stunning, and when Kelly of Kelly Roth Photography invited me to join the fun I eagerly accepted.

We selected a beautiful rainforest location for her maternity session, quiet and private. Lush green foliage to symbolize the growth of new life within.

When the sun came out from behind a cloud for a few brief moments, it illuminated her and her perfect round belly perfectly and I think Kelly and I both gasped out loud- it was a divine touch, bathing her in a halo of light.

I can’t wait to meet her sweet baby. Kelly and I are guessing girl, and we should find out if our guess is correct any moment now. K, we’re wishing you a peaceful, incredible birth and lots of love.

When Nichole contacted me for her maternity session, we discussed several ideas. She showed me her beautiful wedding slideshow and when I suggested holding the session at the Koolau Golf Club where she and Kevin were married she agreed it was perfect. This was my first time visiting the club and special permission is required to photograph there. I’m so glad Nichole made the arrangements- the grounds are breathtaking.
Rocking the boots with one of the cutest baby bellies I’ve seen.

So in love- my favorite part of maternity sessions is capturing the emotions and connections. And of course, since this lovely bridge was a backdrop for their wedding portraits, I wanted to show how much love grows as a family grows.

I adore this one because it shows Nichole’s and Kevin’s personalities so well. They- and I- laughed so much during their session!
Nichole was positively glowing. I love her sweet, hopeful expression.
After we’d packed up and were on our way out, I spotted a gentle slope with yellow oxeye blossoms. “Just one more” turned into a handful, and I’m so glad we took the time. This is one of my favorites from the session.

Maternity sessions should be scheduled between weeks 32-36 when you’re showing nicely and before discomfort sets in- outdoor sessions can be a bit of a workout for everyone. Baby Micah arrived about a week early five weeks after this session, and I can’t wait to share his portraits next.
