Sugar ‘n’ Spice {Hawaii Kai newborn photography}

November 30, 2010

This newborn baby girl was pure sugar. So pretty, and she slept like a dream.

Her five year old sister added the spice- sweet but sassy, smart, and creative, she reminded me a lot of my own five year old.

She adores her new sister, and I can tell they’ll be the best of friends.

Swaddled in a purple wrap with a little flower headband, she was the prettiest blossom in the garden.

Babies grow up so fast- blink and suddenly they’re five years old. I love how, cradled in Dad’s arm, you get a sense scale and realize just how small they are at birth.

Lil’ Slugger {Kaneohe Newborn}

November 7, 2010

Meet Casey, aka Slugger. Don’t let her sweet face fool you- she’s a fighter.
Newborn Casey's faces

At three months old, Casey (nicknamed Slugger in utero by her daddy) isn’t technically a newborn. She (along with her sisters) was born at 26 weeks gestation, weighing only 2lbs 4oz. You can read the story of her journey here.

Casey was just three days away from her due date when I photographed her, and had grown to an impressive 7.5lbs! Her cheeks were positively chubby and oh so kissable.

Every baby I work with is a perfect little miracle, but the preemies always steal my heart.

The day was cool and overcast, so we wrapped Casey up snugly for some pictures outside underneath the mango tree.

I was honored to capture Casey in her first days home, and I wish her and her family all the best! May she continue to grow healthy and strong, and always be surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

November is Prematurity Awareness month. Visit the March of Dimes web site to learn more about preventing prematurity and how you can help babies like Casey.
